Focusing on food is the key to success
Alana McLean, Final Year Food Supply Management Degree student Loughry Campus“When I was looking for a qualification to study after school I wanted one that would help me hit the ground running and the courses at Loughry certainly offer that! I’m now in the final year of the Food Supply Management Degree course. I’ve just completed a module called Strategic Business Management. Part of the module investigates ways in which businesses can develop partnerships with suppliers, customers, employees and the public to enhance businesses performance. Our lecturer organised a guest speaker to come in from Dunbia, a Dungannon based meat company. Ashley Stewart, a manager within the business, talked about competitiveness in the industry and also shared information with us about how their company attracts and retains their staff. It was a really interesting talk and made me sit up and think about the world of work, and how information in lectures is really relevant. Loughry has been great over the years, the College has close links with food businesses. I’ve encountered many of them since I started study on the National Diploma course. From chatting to graduates they tell me Loughry helped prepare them for employment, so having been here from 2003, I’m bound to have a great head start! If you are thinking about working in the food industry whether in the processing or retail business side I think you should come along to one of the Open Days the College organises during the year and see for yourself the great place Loughry is.”
