Foreword
Welcome to the Greenmount Centenary website.
This year marks a milestone in the history of Greenmount as it was on 8 October 1912 that the first class of 11 agriculture students crossed our threshold. Since then the College has gone from strength to strength. Today Greenmount delivers a range of courses on agriculture, agriculture mechanisation, horticulture, floristry and veterinary nursing to 456 full-time and 594 part-time students. We are no longer a College in our own right; with the amalgamation of the three Colleges in 2004, Greenmount is now a Campus of the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise.
To celebrate this centenary year, we propose to hold a series of events throughout the year featuring guided tours, student reunions and a Centenary Open Weekend on 16 and 17 June. As someone who has been at the Campus for almost a third of that century, I am delighted to act as Chairman of the Centenary Organising Committee. Please take time to browse this website which contains a wealth of old photographs of students and staff down through the years. There is also a section on the proposed events for 2012. If you have any suggestions, ideas or simply moments you wish to share, please feel free to contact me or any other committee member. The website will be a ‘work in progress’. As details of reunion events are finalised we will place them on the site and we will publish photographs as and when they become available.
We look forward to sharing our centenary celebrations with you.
Best wishes
